My parents gave me The Essential Calvin and Hobbes for Christmas in 1988 or 89, and for the next half-decade a year didn’t go by without a C&H collection under the tree. Calvin and Hobbes was one of the first comics I loved, and, along with The Simpsons, the main formative influence on my sense of humor. There are thousands, if not millions of people out there who’ve had similar experiences with Bill Watterson’s creation–including all the members of the RW brain trust. So when we were devising a bonus strip to run next week, a couple of light bulbs went off over Dave and Rob’s heads, and Frankie and Felix was born. This look at Frank and Felix’s early years, with great art by Dave doing his best Watterson impression, will run on Monday, Wednesday and Friday next week.

Tomorrow: Police Blotter!

If you’re a Calvin & Hobbes nut too, you might enjoy this link.
