Finally we meet Jesse Bingham. Nice shirt, douchebag.

Anybody else watch last night’s Louie? I’m sure if you care at all you’re either already watching or have heard ad nauseam how great the show is, but last night’s episode–damn! The scene with Tom Noonan ranks up there with the most intense moments of Twin Peaks as one of the most unnerving damn things I’ve ever scene on TV, but it’s the final bit of stand-up that illustrates why Louis C.K. is a comedy-writing god and most of us, myself included, are not. He’s talking about taking the lord’s name in vain, and wondering what people said to express shock, anger, frustration, etc. before they said “Jesus Christ,” i.e. before Jesus existed. I don’t want to spoil it if you haven’t seen it, but I thought I knew where he was going with the joke, and it was going to end with a punchline like “When somebody got a parking ticket for his chariot, did he just yell ‘Zeus?’” That would have been mildly amusing, I guess, but the direction Louis actually takes the joke, and the final perfect punchline–all I can say is “Jesus Christ!” So funny.

Since the end of June I’ve been taking a class on writing a one-hour TV pilot. Our next-to-last class is tonight, and we’re handing in our “beat sheets,” aka the more-or-less full outlines of our shows. I am…spectacularly unsure if mine’s any good or not. These three jamz are the unofficial theme songs of my script. I get the feeling that Frank would not approve of how much Kate Bush would go in the show were it ever to get made.

So what kind of music does FELIX listen to? We know from the last episode that Frank is an AC/DC guy, but FELIX, being a robot, prefers anything bright, shiny and artificial. Give him a 4/4 beat and some weird synth farts, and he’s happy. And he doesn’t discriminate between pop trash and critical darlings–he’ll get down with a “Fembot” or make some “Digital Love,” but his internal atomic clock also goes “Tik Tok,” and he’s got a thing for “California Gurls.” And, of course, he’s a card-carrying Little Monster.

None of this earns him any respect from Frank.

David Letterman and Michael Keaton were both cast members on Mary Tyler Moore’s short-lived 1978 sketch-comedy show Mary. I must see this! Keaton’s been on The Late Show a couple times this year, and it seemed like he and Dave were very old friends; now I know why. His great performance in The Other Guys reminded me that, thanks to Beetlejuice and the first two Batman movies, Michael Keaton was probably my favorite actor as a kid. Christopher Nolan: forget Christian Bale, make The Dark Knight Returns with Keaton. IT IS DECREED.
